Mrs Hazley is our teacher and our wonderful classroom assistants are Mrs Hanna (Mon - Wed), Mrs Todd (Thur & Fri), Miss McCaighy and Miss Wilson. We hope you enjoy finding out about all the fun things we have been learning in P1!
In P1 we take a practical approach to teaching and learning allowing our pupils to find fun and excitement in their learning everyday!
A big part of P1 is Learning Through Play. We understand and value the importance of play in a child’s development. It contributes to positive mental health and wellbeing, develops skills such as resilience, problem solving, sharing and negotiating, and most of all - it is fun! Pupils also experience lots of opportunities for outdoor play and learning.
In P1, pupils build the foundations of their Numeracy and Literacy knowledge and understanding. We use the Jolly Phonics programme to teach early Literacy skills in a progressive, multi-sensory way. Practical materials are used in Numeracy to help children develop a sense of number and a love for the subject.
We work closely with our Nursery to ensure there is a smooth transition to Primary School. P1 is a happy year filled with wonderful experiences and opportunities for all children to grow, develop and learn.
Our Topics Include...
Kindness Week in P1...
As part of Kindness Week we took part in ‘Odd Socks’ day. We wore odd socks to show it's ok to be different and unique. We talked about how we can be kind to each other and who we can reach out to if someone is being unkind. We are all so kind in P1 🫶
First week of P1
